My book is now available
I'm excited to announce that my book, Teaching Writing Online: How and Why (NCTE), is now available. Check it out at http://www1.ncte.org/store/books/comp/130888.htm or
This blog describes my efforts to develop and teach online writing courses at Drexel University, an endeavor that began in 2004. My goal is to provide useful information about teaching writing—particularly first-year writing—in online or in hybrid settings and to encourage conversations about such teaching. I started this blog mainly to experiment with this technology, but I also hope that my successes and failures will help others to create, teach, and assess online writing courses.

You ROCK. Congratulations.
I just finished it, and I thought it was great. I'm looking at teaching my first hybrid comp courses this fall, and the book gave me many ideas and suggestions that I will implement.
I've been teaching online since 2003. Your book offered great insight for a seasoned instructor like myself. I love the points about how to develop online discussions to include low and high-stakes assignments.
You have a knack for demystifying the online teaching process. Thanks for a good read!
Thanks for these great compliments, Marisa. It's especially meaningful because you've been doing this for such a long time.

Just finished reading this book. It is the first really practical book I have seen--especially one focused just on composition teaching. Most books either examine the technical apsects of CMS or the "social significance" of online teaching. Your thoughts on copyright lead me to ask: Do you mind if I copy sections from your sample syllabi and assignments to use in my own courses?
MikeP,
I don't mind at all. Those materials in the book are for other teachers to use, as are the materials on the blog. Please feel free to make use of them.
